ORGANIZATION HIGHLIGHTS:
Horse Therapy Centre of Canada provides Equine Assisted Therapy and Equine Assisted Learning Programs to a wide demographic of clients. We are currently seeking (3) Adult Volunteers (18+) to aid in the execution of our group programs.
VOLUNTEER POSITION SUMMARY:
Within the context of a client and family-centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, volunteers provide assistance in performing services for youth, adults and families including psycho-educational programs to individuals, groups and families. Assists in the facilitation of psycho-educational group learning programs for youth, adults and families; establishes trust with clients and engages them at their level of readiness for change. Collaborates and consults with colleagues and participates in quality improvement initiatives. Brings hands-on equine experience to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- Two (2) years’ recent, related experience with the handling and direct care of horses.
- Ability to work independently on tasks and assignments
- Ability to change output to meet client’s needs and/or ability.
- Asset: Comprehensive knowledge/experience with Indigenous context in Canada.
Knowledge & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Equine handling and care.
- Comprehensive experience with Equine animals.
- Ability to develop non-judgemental client relationships with clients from a spectrum of demographics, who may or may not be involved in criminal court procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with youth, adults, educational personnel, and colleagues, both one-on-one and in groups.
- Demonstrated listening skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within group settings.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Asset: Flexible schedule that include varying shifts.
- Asset: Broad knowledge of the normal growth and development.
- Asset: Broad knowledge of criminal, family and immigration court procedures.
- Asset: Broad knowledge of local social programs.
- Asset: Broad knowledge of the Children’s Aide Society, group homes and treatment facilities.
- Asset: Demonstrated ability to conduct individual educational programs.
- Assists in pre-event preparation (set-up, paper work, planning, horse grooming, ect.)
- Assists in delivering pre-developed programs in individual and group settings, at our Equine Therapy and Wellness Centre.
- Co-facilitate programs on an as-needed basis.
- Care for equine partner before and after programs and sessions (feed, water, pick stalls, groom, and exercise included).
