Job Title: Social Worker – Equine Assisted Therapist
Work Site: Stouffville, Ontario
Status: Permanent Part-Time/Occasional
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
Hours: Evenings & Weekends with some daytime availability
Within the context of a client and family-centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, provides services to youth, adults and families including psycho-educational programs to individuals, groups and families. Facilitates psycho-educational group and one-on-one equine assisted therapy and learning programs for youth, adults and families; establishes trust with clients and engages them at their level of readiness for change. Collaborates and consults with colleagues and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with registration to provincial/Canadian Association.
- One (1) years’ recent, related experience providing education or counselling services including providing professional services to youth, adults and families or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
- Five (5) years’ recent, related experience with the handling and direct care of horses.
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and reliable vehicle.
- Asset: Entrepreneurial experience, or equivalent self-starting position.
- Asset: Ability to change output to meet client’s needs and/or ability.
- Asset: Comprehensive knowledge/experience with Indigenous context in Canada.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and interpersonal/intimate relationship issues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of emotional intelligence theories.
- Comprehensive knowledge of conflict resolution and communication skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Equine handling and care.
- Comprehensive experience with Equine animals.
- Broad knowledge of the normal growth and development.
- Broad knowledge of criminal, family and immigration court procedures.
- Broad knowledge of local social programs.
- Broad knowledge of the Children’s Aide Society, group homes and treatment facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct group educational programs and to facilitate open conversations within such.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct individual educational programs and/or counselling sessions.
- Ability to develop non-judgemental client relationships with clients from a spectrum of demographics, who may or may not be involved in criminal court procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with youth, adults, educational personnel, court service providers, colleagues, lawyers, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
- Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within group or one-on-one setting.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.

- Basic computer literacy to operate computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
- Flexible schedule that include varying shifts, including day-time, evening and weekend hours.
- Delivers pre-developed programs in individual and group settings, at our Equine Therapy and Wellness Centre,
- Delivers individual, couples and family counselling at our Equine Therapy and Wellness Centre,
- Independently attends and facilitates said programs and counselling sessions.
- Independently schedules and facilitates said programs and counselling sessions.
- Must be able to prioritize client load to make sure that all clients are meeting individual agency expectations – if applicable to the client.
- Write and send reports for agency, court and employment purposes.
- Co-facilitate programs on an as-needed basis.
- Care for equine partner before and after programs and sessions (feed, water, pick stalls, groom, and exercise included).
- The hours of work change based on client needs and group course offerings.
